Job Summary:
AV&C is seeking an experienced Senior UX/UI Designer to join our interdisciplinary experience design studio.
A successful candidate will have extensive experience defining behaviors and designing user experiences in spaces and on screens in the built environment, an ability to workshop problems with cross-functional teams, a love of form, surface, technology, and craft, and an interest in expanding their own skill set.
As a member of our Experience Design group reporting to the Creative Director, you will be part of a collaborative team contributing to the experience, software, and technology that bring our projects to life.
This is a full-time position based primarily onsite in our NYC studio.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Creative Director to design purpose-driven user experiences, informed by technology and architectural spaces, framed by project vision and goals, experiential objectives, and content strategy
Collaborate fluidly with the XD and Software teams to develop novel concepts, lofty but achievable goals, and meaningful experiences that are accessible, desirable, and awe-inspiring
Design and lead the development and execution of clear, intuitive, and elegant user experiences that are an integral part of the holistic end-to-end experience
Design and develop a UX that provides for the requirements of operators and staff who curate or create content, use and maintain the system, and guide guests through an experience
Design and develop a visual language that reflects the project vision, goals, and often translates existing brand expressions for new purposes
Develop user journeys, personas, and use case scenarios
Participate in client workshops to provoke conversations, reorient mindsets, and build consensus
Design for responsive and interactive experiences that may include tablet-based control screens, dynamic signage, and architecturally scaled, highly choreographed multi-display canvases
Design highly detailed and complex platform-based systems with clarity
Understand the use of underlying web-based technologies including responsive designs and progressive web applications
Develop design documentation and deliverables from early concept through implementation including detailed sitemaps, information architecture, wireframes, and user flows
Plan and develop documents and materials for presentations, workshops, and reviews
Develop and present a variety of internal and client-facing visualizations including quick and dirty sketches, wireframes, and clickable prototypes
Steward a consistent vision with client and internal teams
Participate in meetings and workshops in-office (NYC) as necessary
Participate in internal and onsite QA
What You Bring To The Table:
7-10 years of experience in the design of user experiences that utilize combinations of software, technology, and physical solutions
A designer at your core, you are at home with the Software team, and equally fluent in both UX and UI design and development
An advocate for user-centered design and a working knowledge of Universal Design best practices
A systems thinker who embraces complexity while providing clarity without oversimplifying
An iterative process and an experimental mindset but with a reliable and proven toolbox
A range of tested best practices to employ and socialize
Obsessively organized, collaborative, curious, and empathetic
A proven track record of innovative UX/UI development in the built environment through discovery, concept, prototyping, design, production, user testing, and implementation
Ability to clearly communicate complex concepts to clients, software developers, systems designers, and creative technologists
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Fluency with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, etc
Familiarity with architectural lighting and automation systems a plus

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $130,000 per year. Salary is competitive and based on experience.
